UnDomestic

Writings of a teachermom, choosing to stay home with her kids, while loathing all domestic responsibilities! In late Aug. 2008, I was diagnosed with Triple Negative breast cancer. After surgery, chemo and radiation, I was given theall clear. However, in the late summer of 2008, I was diagnosed with a brain tumor, which metasticized to other areas.

Busy Week

Can't believe it is over a week since the last posting. I keep going back to edit this as each day is different and doesn't seem to be relevent the time I want to post. I also wanted to post some pictures of the kids first day of school, but haven't figured that out yet so you will only get words this time. Cari had a relatively better week. Meaning she was not sleeping as much as the last week, not in as much pain, however on the other end, very restless and often confused throughout the day and night. Cari asked me today why she is so scared. I was greatful to receive a book from Fairview Home Health Care and Hospice and was able to answer her question. It seemed to satisfy her and calm her down some. Not knowing what each day has in store for you can be frightening. I am just so honored to be able to be by Cari's side each day and hold her hand so she knows she is never alone on this journey. She actually had some visitors this week and was able to converse for short periods of time. Her Dad came for the week end and was pleasantly surprised to see her talking to him when he arrived at 1AM Saturday morning. She was asking for him all week so I guess she wasn't going to miss the opportunity to see him the first chance he arrived.

Like all families it was the first week of school for the Ashford kiddos. Cameron started 3rd grade with the Gateway program at Baily School. Max is now in full time kindergarten and Ella attends preschool 3 half a days a week. Well the saying "it takes a village to raise a child" is so true. The Ashford children are very fortunate to have a very involved Daddy and dedicated Nanny in their lives and neighbors helping to cart to practices and having play times with all that has to be accomplished.

This week we have plans to meet with Hospice and review what services they have to offer.
Please pray that Cari will find more restful moments, especially at night, so all can be refreshed to tend to her needs.

In His Peace!

"For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us. For the creation waits with eager longing for the revealing of the sons of God."
Romans 8:18-19

God Bless You, Mary Beth. You have such a beautiful family. Cari, I'm so happy for all the kids. It seems like only yesterday we were talking about Cameron's first year of school and what his needs were, etc. You have done so many good things in your life! Your kids are proof. Peace to you all. Do you know the song, "Here I am Lord, It is I Lord, I have heard you calling out my name."--It's beautiful, it may bring you calm. Love from all of us. Connie

How wonderful to have such a dedicated family to stay by your side. Take joy in those beautiful children, and the chance to sooth Cari when she is frightened, and enjoy her 1 am conversations. My thoughts are with you all.

Nirel Morris : Thank you so much for the updates! I have heard so much about you, but never had the chance to meet you. I am a former student of Cari's and have always been inspired by her. I would love to come visit the family as Cari had always visited my home when she was in New Jersey. My email is nmorris@yahoo.com. I look forward to hearing from and my heart goes out to you and your family

I'm glad you're going to talk with hospice. They can be such a big help, taking care of a lot of the mundane stuff so you can take care of yourself and your loved one. The caring, respect and attentiveness they showed to my wife's needs made me wish that all medical treatment could follow their example.

In God is my salvation and my glory: the rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God. Trust in him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before him: God is a refuge for us. Selah."

Mary Beth,
I pray that God continues to give you the amazing strength that is so evident in your posts. I'm sure that although these moments are extremely difficult, they are also blessed. There is nothing that a mother wouldn't do for her daughter, and you are a shining example of this. What an inspiration the Spitz family is for me. I will continue to pray for Cari's and the entire family's comfort and peace.
Love,
Bernice

Marybeth:
Thanks for posting again and keeping us all updated in blogland about Cari.

I'm sure she is scared - it's a normal reaction to what is happening to her.

But I PRAY that you will take time to read God's Word over her. Flood her heart and mind with His TRUTH to assure her of who she is IN CHRIST! She is His Beloved Child - whether He calls her home soon or in 50 more years.

Suggestions for reading:

Joshua 1: 1-9
Ephesians 1
Galatians 2:20
Psalm 1, 8, 136, 145

just for starters!

I have typed and deleted several times to think of the best thing to say - something that would bring comfort to your pain, if only for a moment. But nothing seems good enough so I will simply say that the example of love and strength that your family has shared has been inspiring, encouraging and heartfelt. Thanks for sharing your journey. Peace to you all -

Love you!

Melvin and family,
I ache for you with your loss of Cari. She was one of those people whose warmth was felt as she entered a room. Even when dealing with 3 kids in one crowded exam room, she gave each child just what they needed - she was a wonderful woman and a gift to this world.
