UnDomestic

Writings of a teachermom, choosing to stay home with her kids, while loathing all domestic responsibilities! In late Aug. 2008, I was diagnosed with Triple Negative breast cancer. After surgery, chemo and radiation, I was given theall clear. However, in the late summer of 2008, I was diagnosed with a brain tumor, which metasticized to other areas.

Thankfully I am still home. It is so great to be out of the hospital and not be woken up every hour to have my vitals checked and such. Still needing prayers for the leg pain.

Both my cousins Jen and Jill, who are sisters, had babies this week. This is very exciting. Here is a video of them if you're interested. http://www2.snapfish.com/mmsplay/slideShowOid=2193400/ownerid=77115017/controllerType=mms/preview=true/t_=71195566

I'm Home!!!!!!!!

Just another quick update for now. Yesterday they finally let me home from the hospital! I still can't walk, and still experience burning leg pain. But we're working on it.

I did have excellent care in the hospital, with wonderful nurses and nurses aides. One aide, his name was Honest. I thought that was pretty cool.

My neighbors are still amazing, providing meals (sometimes annonymously) making a ramp for my wheelchair, and just being very kind and helpful. I'm very grateful.

More of an update

Still in the hospital, but getting slightly stronger every day. I still can't walk on my own. And still experience intermittent burning pain.

But I'm not giving up. I'm still praying for a miracle.

Dear friends, don't be surprised by the fiery troubles that are coming in order to test you. Don't feel as though something strange is happening to you, but be happy as you share Christ's sufferings. Then you will also be full of joy when he appears again in his glory. (I Peter 4:12-13)

Hospital Stay Saga

Blessings to all of Cari's blogger friends. Cari has been in the hospital since last Wednesday regarding the seizures she had. But happy to report that she is on seizure meds and so far it is now under control. One of the other reasons she has been hospitalized so long is because her blood counts were very low and they had to be raised to fight off any type of infection. She is also receiving Physical Therapy to help strengthen her body, especially her legs and arms. Being bedridden in the hospital for so long and the side effects of medication have weakened her muscles. But she is motivated to work on her strength so she can get home soon. She is also experiencing burning pain as an after effect from shingles. Please pray that this will also diminish quickly. But Rumor is that it may be this week that she will get home (let's keep our fingers crossed). After all we have a belated birthday to cele brate!

As always we extend our gratitude and thanks for everyone's thoughts and prayers and meals and phone calls and most recently for the beautiful ramp her neighbors built so she can easily be transported in her wheel chair. As the weather improves be on the look out for her presence and smile in the neighborhood.

Birthday in the Hospital

Cari arrived home from U of M on Monday night and had a good Tuesday at home. She had her old spark back with good conversation and scooting around the house in her wheel chair. Yesterday started out with a visit with Physical Therapy and visits from two friends. But mid afternoon Cari had 2 seizures and she was transported to the hospital. She is in ICU and will be going through testing again to address this issue. Not the way she would have wanted to spend her Birthday. Please lift her up in prayer that the reason for this happening will be determined and that the correct medication to keep this under control will be given.

Still in the hospital

Well, I am still in the hospital. The earliest I can go home is tomorrow. They need to do an xray to make sure my lungs are clear. I really want to get home because it 's hard to sleep here when you're being woken up all the time to have your vitals checked.

My husband said I am getting a little better with my walking. But it's very still very slight.

But I'm still so gratful for all the kind people at the hospital.

"The LORD bless you and keep you; the LORD make his face shine upon you and be gracious to you; the LORD turn his face toward you and give you peace." Numbers 6:24-26

"Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand."Isaiah 41:10

Hospital Update

Sorry this update didn't happen until now. Did not have Cari's password and could not get onto her site till now. Cari's BBBD procedure (Blood Brain Barrier Disruption) went well. She actually was admitted on Tuesday to place the port back for chemo administration along with pre op tests at the University of Minnesota. Wed and Thursday she had the procedure performed. As a matter of fact the Doctor just came in and the procedure went well. They were pleased with the results of the disruption, meaning the chemo got into the places they wanted it to. For more information about this procedure you can visit the website that talks about this procedure. She is sleeping a lot due to the medications and the anesthesia she underwent. But that sleep is well deserved since she was having problems sleeping over the last few weeks. If all goes well tomorrow, she will be going home. She is already scheduled for next month's procedure, as this will be a monthly therapy in the hospital. We just pray that the results will be successful. In a few weeks she will have an MRI and we will know better.

Phillippians 4: 7
And God's peace (shall be yours, that "tranquil state of a soul assured of its salvation through Christ, and so fearing nothing from God and being content with its earthly lot of whatever sort that is, that peace) which transcends all understanding shall garrison and mount guard over your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

Update

I thought I had updated this blog. But apparently not. Medically speaking I am not doing that well. I am getting weaker and it's harder for me to walk.

They are going to do the Blood Brain Brain barrier disruption next week I think. This should allow the chemo to get to the brain. They also think it might have gone to the bones.

Bible verse

"Don't worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God's peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus."
